Are you celebrating Kejriwal’s success on delivering on his promises in the first year? We’ve unlocked the fine print for you:
POWER SUBSIDY FOR VOTES
A 50 per cent subsidy on electricity consumption of up to 400 units in Delhi will likely work out to about Rs 1,000 per household. It’s not a big sum for the middle class and the rich, but does work nicely for the lower classes, especially the daily wagers (Ricksawallahs, Dhobis, etc.).
This is a subtle bribe that will likely translates into votes of the masses and of many from the middle class folks.
Well, fair enough, but we all know that rickshaw drivers, dhobis, coolies, and most daily wagers skim off the top by unnecessarily hiking their rates. Who will monitor their pricing? Not Kejriwal for sure.
A WATER SUBSIDY THAT IS AN INSULT
Do you know how Delhi-its pay for water?
Charges for consuming 2 kiloliters = Rs 40-00 (up to 20,000 liters or 2 Kiloliters)
Sewer Maintenance (50% of consumption) = Rs 20-00
Water Cess (2 paise per kiloliter) = Rs 0-04
Bribing people with Rs 60 per month is like an insult. People who genuinely cannot afford it will not pay. But for people who can pay, this relief should sound more like an insult rather than a gift.
JAN LOKPAL BILL
Sure, the Kejriwal government passed the Jan Lokpal Bill. But do you know that:
- Delhi’s Lokpal has not yet been appointed?
- The Lokpal can be removed by 2/3rds of the AAP MLAs?
- That the Lokpal selection committee will be set up by Kejriwal and company?
- That the Lokpal will have to rely on government officers for investigation?
All this aside. Kejriwal’s Jan Lokpal Bill requires the Center’s and the LG’s nod. And now you know why Kejriwal is setting himself up against the center all the time. So that they retaliate and he keeps complaining and cribbing.
I am not for BJP, and this is a neutral view, and I honestly think that Kejriwal is play acting by blaming the center for everything.
So, will a Jan Lokpal be appointed during Kejri’s tenure? Doesn’t seem likely.
CAG AUDIT OF DELHI DISCOMS
Getting an overburdened government auditor to look into a private company’s accounts was a half-baked promise with showcase value. Predictably, the Delhi HC struck down the proposal and now all Kejri does is chant that he tried to fulfill the promise but was rendered helpless by the courts.
He’s promised to move the SC, but no word on that.
DELHI’S OWN POWER STATION
Heck, the NTPC station has been asked to shift because it is polluting the atmosphere and so will Kejriwal’s. For Kejriwal, it’s a choice between the Odd-Even rule (which is theoretically against pollution) and a new power station. Guess which option Kejriwal will take.
DELHI TO BE A SOLAR CITY
This is a sham because the actual scheme’s been announced by the center. Kejriwal will fly around a vulture around it, and then claim credit. Wanna bet?
PROMOTE RAINWATER HARVESTING
Rainwater harvesting requires each house to invest about Rs 75,000-Rs 1,00,000. If it is forced down people’s throats, it will make Kejriwal unpopular. Guess he’ll keep saying nice things about rainwater harvesting and leave the decision to the public.
BUILD 2,00,000 TOILETS
1000s of Delhi-ites are still shitting and peeing on roads and railway tracks? How many Kejrilets have been built in the last one year? There’s no answer, not even a squeaky fart.
BUILD 500 NEW SCHOOLS
Coo, how many built in the last one year? None.
Kejri was to build 500 now in 5 years, which is down to 4 years. @ 10.42 schools per month.
It’s not possible and even if it were possible it would amount to diluting the quality of education. Kejri should have focussed on strengthening existing school systems before making undoable promises.
REMOVE OPAQUENESS IN PRIVATE SCHOOL ADMISSIONS
The promise looks nice and populist on paper but amounts to interfering into a private taxpaying company’s affairs in the name of public interest.
The schools have complained to the HC which has issued notices to the government for interfering into the autonomous activities of private schools.
This promise too seems racing towards the sewers.
Swaraj and Statehood for Delhi require the Center’s okay. What’s your take? Do you think the central government will give up control of Delhi?
These promises are made just to keep the junta in a good mood, they are more undoable than any other AAP promise.
MOHALLA CLINICS (PRIMARY HEALTH CARE CENTERS)
In November 2015, Kejriwal sanctioned 209 crores to open 1,000 Mohalla Clinics. That works out to about 21 lakhs per clinic. These clinics will provide all kinds of test (Blood, ECG, Ultrasound, X-Ray, etc.) and they must invest 21 lakhs into the equipment and other stuff required for all tests
I must bitch about this scheme:
- It’s not possible to obtain expensive equipment required for a variety of tests for within 21 lakhs.
- Where will Kejriwal get the doctors from?
- Only 1 such clinic has opened in 1 year. How can he open 999 in his remaining 4 years?
- Where will the talent (doctors, nurses) come from? B-grade colleges?
This too, like his other prominent promises, seems like a piece of trash.
QUALITY DRUGS AT AFFORDABLE PRICE
I want to know why Kejriwal is not promoting generics. Generics are priced at 1/3rd (even lesser) the rate of branded drugs and their promotion can really help people save serious cash. But any such move will invite the wrath of the pharmaceutical majors and Kejriwal is nothing more than a toothless paper tiger.
INSTALL 15 LAKH CCTVS
“If 15,000 CCTV cameras can be installed for Barack Obama, why can’t the same be done for our mothers and sisters? We will install 15 lakh CCTV cameras along with putting a security guard in every bus.” — Arvind Kejriwal
A CCTV camera costs about 9,000 with cabling (retail price is about 12,000). Here are the questions:
- How many CCTV cams installed so far?
- The total investment will work up to 1,350 crores. Where will you get that kind of cash?
- How many buses in Delhi? What’s the salary per security guard that will be posted in every bus? Where will you get all this cash from?
- How many people are required to monitor the CCTV footage? What wll be their salary? How will you arrange for it?
I don’t even want to go any further.
Look, I can go on and on proving to you that all of Kejriwal’s significant promises are either hollow or undoable (end of VAT, no more Inspector Raj, Startup Hub, Reduce pollution, blah, blah).
I anticipate that Kejri will keep firing missiles in the dark and then claim credit for the ones that hit. For example, the Odd-Even scheme did nothing to bring down pollution but was declared a big hit, and now Kejriwal has latched on to it.
You are an educated person with basic intelligence. Can you not see through fake promises and empty hype? If you can’t, it’s time you wisened up or will be left electing the wrong ones every election.
